On Differences

Went to lunch with Polycarp in Pak Li cafe ( the only affordable, edible, decent place in Section 18). Both of us were discussing about the different type of personalities of people we see around us, especially in INTEC itself. It was kinda interesting when we started comparing notes on our observations as well as opinions of the very different type of peoples that we have had the opportunity to cross path with.

And that got me thinking....

The problem in life is not when you're being different from others, it's when you're feeling different with others.

This kinda holds true too, for being alone and loneliness. We tend to associate both together whenever we see a person only being with himself. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being alone, but often, the start of the problem is when you are feeling lonely. You can be in the midst of the crowd and still feel lonely,but you don't have to be lonely when you are alone. Being alone is the state of the environment; loneliness is a state of mind; they are not necessarily related in anyway.

Anyway, back to being different... What does it mean by being different ? To a lot of people, i am a very different person with them, possibly another life form arriving from another planet *chuckles*


but as Polycarp so rightly said, who can define what is normal ?

If being different means loving to be alone and be lost in your own world when others prefer the company of other friends,

If being different means doing what something that you like while others shun it as far as they could,

If being different means talking about philosophy and factual things when others are discussing about computer games, their movie/song idols and the latest gossip one hears,

If being different means staying up late to the wee hours of the morning pouring over books when others are sleeping,

If being different means thinking and perceiving things from views that are normally against the norm of the society,

If being different means aiming high beyond your current abilities and there's a huge possibility you might fail when others prefer to go on the normal route in life,


then i tell you what.. i want to be different !

I want to be different because out of so many hundred and billions of lost souls out there in the world, i want to differentiate myself from others !

I want to be different because i refuse to make my life an apology but a statement for others that no matter how lofty our goals are, as long as we set our eyes un-wavered at the ending zone, success is not impossible, it is inevitable !

I want to be different because i want to sit back and watch my life transform, with the blessings and power of God, from a normal ordinary life to something extraordinary !



Finally, i want be different because that's how i am going to make a difference in the world. Because at the end of everything, beneath all differences of doctrines and discipline,there exist a fundamental agreement of our existence in this world, and that is to make the world a better place for others, for all of us.

One day, we'll all be called home to the Lord. I want to stand in His Light, His Presence and His Glory, staring into his compassionate blue eyes, and said, "Lord, thank you. It has been a good race to the end. I have done my best."


One of the greatest gift that God gave us is our life and our talents, and one of the greatest gift we can return to God is to use the gifts He gave us to the fullest.
